A quick and easy way to find some Local Fresh Produce options in your area is Food Routes . I entered my Zip Code for a general search and it gave me A Map and Listing including the Farmer’s Market.
The Map could use some visual improvements, it is a little hard to read, blurred.
It is nevertheless quick and easy to use.
They quote USDA stats (2002) that inform us that in the US the majority of fruits and vegetables come from 3 states, Florida, California and Washington State.
Also worth noting (quoting from Food Routes again):"The average food item travels 1550-2480 miles (2500-4000 KM) in the U.S".
For sure, local markets in the US have a long way to go before they catch up in size and scope of offerings with say French and Spanish Markets.
I cannot speak for other countries which I do not know enough about.
Maybe some of you who read this from Asia or other parts of the world want to chime in and share your experience in words and pictures.
