Waikiki Cocktail Recipe from Jiggle Shots Warms Up a Winter Day

Waikiki cocktail recipe from Jiggle Shots (Abrams Books, Fall 2011) by Rachel Federman warms up a winter day.

Waikiki

3-ounce package cherry Jell-O
1 cup 7Up, brought to just a boil
3 ounces of chilled orange juice
5 ounces chilled gin
Maraschino cherries

Stir Jell-O into 7Up until powder is completely dissolved. Allow to cool 20 minutes. Add orange juice and gin. Mix and pour into shot glasses. Place shots in fridge to set.

Maraschino cherries are de rigueur. Put one on top of each shot, but make sure to wait until the mixture has begun to thicken up enough so the cherry won’t sink down to the bottom of the glass.

* Some say the Shirley Temple – the famous cocktail for kids – was invented at a hotel in
Waikiki; others give credit to the famous “Geradine Lemonade” to Chasen’s in
Hollywood. Either way, save this version for the over-21 crowd.
