Eat Drink Read, Food inspired by Books, Fundraiser for Literacy, San Diego, May 18

You and I take literacy for granted, some kids and adults struggle with it.

Rather than put on a fundraiser with boring speeches and run of the mill food, the San Diego Council on Literacy invited a dozen plus chefs from the area to concoct dishes inspired by a favorite book.

The result of their creative labor will be on display during Eat Drink Read event on May 18, 2011.

You can get a taste of things to come thanks to a series of videos shot by some of the chefs.

I chose Chef Jared Van Camp of Quality Social as an illustration.

Idea for his homemade hotdog came from A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (1980).

While most chefs got their ideas from fiction books, Bernard Guillas and Ron Oliver could not resist plugging recipes from their cookbook, Flying Pans (2009)

Event takes place at NTC Promenade from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

Admission is $60.00 per person. Wine, beer, and appetizers are included with admission.

Not surprisingly July saw bookings peak for August, most popular month to vacation. Fun fact is longest stay, 340 days, with trip from Zurich...

May 11
Seems like in past couple of years, Bostonians get more visits from the Loire Valley Wines team than we do in New York. Loire Valley Wines teamed up with Second Glass to present Muscadet Shuck Yeah! on May 14 at Villa Victoria Center for the Arts. A $25 ticket gets you food from Woodman's of Essex, oysters from Blue Island Shellfish, and Muscadet from Loire Valley Wine Bureau! There will also be hosting a shucking...
