I originally went looking at what a Timothy Leary Event at the 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco had to offer.
I ended up finding the more visually entertaining Pin It Up Babycakes exhibit at the same gallery.
Under the banner of "Fishnets, tarts and the art of the modern tease" according to the program "the work in the show ranges from sexily clad Samurai sword swinging
chicks on hot rods, to charmingly naughty illustrations with a
Victorian flourish. Shelves will be stocked with cheeky cowgirls on
bowling pins, along with pinups ‘advertising’ products like Catwoman’s
whipping cream, purrrfect on pie."
Pin It Up Babycakes was created by Alice Stribling and Jessica Whiteside.
Opening night is February 5 at 6pm at the gallery to be followed by a burlesque show at 9pm ($5 for show, must be 21). It is sponsored by Sailor Jerry Rum, my first encounter with the fellow.
The exhibit runs until February 28.
Illustration above borrowed from the program.
Spicing it up on a cold Wednesday in New Jersey.
