I might be getting used to screw tops by now and it might be a plus when you go to a barbecue and a wine opener is missing in action.
Cups do not do it for me though.
Give me a glass!
Continuing my exploration of Italian wines, looking for a solid red table wine, I picked a bottle of this Fattoria Laila ‘Rosso Piceno’ (2004).
The winery in Corinaldo (Le Marche) sits on hills with a full view of the Adriatic Sea on the east coast of Italy.
With a focus on low yields and reduced environmental impact, Fattoria Laila was taken over in 1990 by Andrea Crocenzi. The addition of winemaker, Lorenzo Landi helped create a distinctive style.
Our friends at North Berkeley Imports describe the Rosso Piceno (2004) as "a spicy, sultry blend of 80% Montepulciano and 20% Sangiovese spends a
few months in older barrels to give it an extra dose of black pepper
and smoke. Deep notes of plums and blackberries; lovely soft tannins
lead to a delightful spicy kick on the finish. Medium-bodied yet
lavishly fruity, the 2004 Rosso Piceno is an ideal house wine that will
pair perfectly with any casual meal".
Read Vibrant Verdicchio, bold Montepulciano, their poetic and passionate take on Fattoria Laila.
I could not say it better.
This wine retails for around $13.
