What is the official vegetable of Monterey? Artichokes anyone?

After noticing that 'Artichokes' were a hot topic today on 'Serge the Concierge', I had to find out if any world event created the buzz.

I did not come up with any breaking news but my beliefs where challenged when I discovered that contrary to what I thought the Artichoke World did not revolve around Brittany. Monterey County claims to be 'The Artichoke Center of the World' and the California Artichoke is the Official Vegetable of Monterey.

All this I must say is according to the 'California Artichoke Advisory Board'.
Should I take the news seriously?
