You might think of Kansas City, Missouri as a place to explore Jazz History with the American Jazz Museum. I personally associate it with Count Basie circa late 20’s to 30’s. It is now also home to a culinary hallmark, Restaurant Bluestem. The cozy setting with comfy banquettes and a wall of mirrors looks soothing. On the Dinner Menu, the Burgundy Escargot (hot appetizers) and the Wagyu Flatiron (main dishes) caught my eye. The one line description for each dish, no laundry list here, lets the food do the talking. Their wine list offers a good range of wines by the glass and half bottles (good if you travel solo or want to try a couple different wines during the course of your meal).
You can order 3, 5 or 7 courses ($55.00, $65.00, $75.00) or go for the Chef Spontaneous Collection of 12 courses for $100.00 (available only Monday through Thursday).
I discovered this wonderful place (if you love food) while reading Between Meals by Michael Bauer.
