For WBW #19, Domaine Monpertuis, Vignoble de la Ramiere (2003), Cuvee Counoise is in my glass

The Rhone region holds a special place for me, reminds me of lazy summer afternoons in Avignon at the Theatre du Chene Noir or in the countryside nearby Nimes, outdoor concerts such as in Arles where I had a chance to see Kevin Ayers and Nico performing together. So simple pleasures bring me to my choice for this Wine Blogging Wednesday #19 "When in Rhone" hosted by 'Winexpression'. First reason, I like many of Neal Rosenthal picks, second it is priced well (around $10.00), third it uses a local grape named Counoise also known as 'Aubun' which brings a sense of terroir. Domaine Monpertuis, Vignoble de la Ramiere, Vin de Pays du Gard (2003), Cuvee Counoise won me over.Cuvee_counoise
Paul Jeune acquired this lot which was originally planted in 1950.
Counoise is found as a blending grape in Chateauneuf du Pape but is seldom used as a standalone grape. It displays some spices and tannins and a good finish. The wine can be cellared and enjoyed for 2 to 3 more years. Excellent value for the price.
For more reading on Rhone wines, "The Wines of the Northern Rhône" by John Livingstone-Learmonth with a foreword by Kermit Lynch (published by University of California Press) is a good place to start.

From Andrea, based in Vermont, Learned on Women opens my eyes on different-better ways to communicate with women as...

My Andalucian 'roots' brought me to Casitas Select

Mar 9
As I was looking for information on Spanish cheeses, I found by accident Casitas Select. They offer a number of attractive rental properties in Andalucia, in the countryside, near the main cities such as Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada, and also by the coast, in the Malaga area. I have never used their services so I can judge them only by their selection and prices. The last time I was in the area was about 15...
