I was pleased with my first visit to Espace, an event space on 42 Street almost by the river, for Around Australia in 80 Sips.
Background music included faux French songs, low-fi renditions of Michael Jackson and more groovy tracks by the likes of David Byrne.
Good mix of people, more wine fans than professionals, noise level was acceptable. You did not need to yell while having a conversation.
Food wise, we were treated to grilled meats on canapes, assorted cheeses and savory as well as sweet hand pies from Pie Face, an Australian chain with 70 outlets down under.
They started in Bondi Beach (near Sydney) and are about to open their first store outside Australia in New York on Monday, January 23.
NY Tasting was organized by Bottlenotes in collaboration with Wine Australia which will present 2 more Around Australia in 80 Sips in the U.S.
Chicago is next on January 26, followed by San Francisco on February 10, 2012.
