Thanks to the Google Doodle, I did not miss a chance to celebrate E.C. Segar' s Birthday.

In honor of his creator, please eat your spinach like Popeye today, December 8.

I learned from Lambiek that Elzie Crisler Segar (1894-1938) first did odd jobs then began "working the film projector in a movie house. Inspired by seeing the humorous movies of Charlot, he created a few comics copying the same situations. These had no success, until Segar met Richard Felton Outcault, creator of 'The Yellow Kid', who encouraged him to carry on and introduced him at the Chicago Herald"

It goes to show that humble beginnings and perseverance can lead you somewhere.

As for spinach, you can have it steamed, sauteed with garlic and oil to keep the vampires away or creamy...
