After an indigestion of Turkey on Thanksgiving, here in the US most of the news buzz is about Black Friday, a treat for shopaholics.
In the wider world, on November 27, many people celebrate the Muslim holiday of Eid-ul-Adha (the festival of sacrifice) marking the end of Hajj if I am not mistaken.
Here are a few dishes and recipes served on the occasion as shared in Eid Recipes by the Holiday Spot.
They quote as favorites "meatballs followed by the sweet gulab jamuns are often an Eid-ul-Adha
favorite among the Muslims. Another popular Eid-ul-Adha menu is the
Ummah mix, which is based on recipes from around the Muslim world. This
Ummah feast is an international feast of Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and
is meant to bring closer Muslims from across the world."
Gulab Jamun are also popular for Diwali.
They were the theme of a recent India Cooking Challenge in which Nythia of Fourth Sense Samayal participated.
I borrowed her appetizing picture above as an illustration.
Thanks to Pepy for helping me learn a few new things by putting Eid-ul-Adha on my Friday map.
