On Mother's Day, Be Civilized, Wait Until around Noon to take Mom out

Blame it on my French roots but I cannot imagine how anyone can take their mother out for Brunch on Mother's Day at 10:00 am.
Any week-end but this one, no problem.
I am afraid that if I did that to my mother on that special day, she would refuse to talk to me for a while.
In my opinion, having a meal that early on a holiday makes it look like a chore that you want to get done with ASAP.
It smacks of bad manners.
Or you might just be a cheapskate.
On Mother's day, in the Consumed to Thrifty spirit no need to go crazy but please don't be cheap.

Bad taste can also show in your choice of gifts.
Amongst the worst picks, on The Poop (SF Chronicle Baby Blog),  Kelly Mills mentions Plastic Surgery, Exercise Equipment, Tacky and Expensive Jewelry and Household (Kitchen) Items as no-nos.

So a word of advice, take Mom out at a civilized time on Mother's Day, say 11:30 am or later.
If you want to beat the crowd, an early dinner might even be a saner option.

Let's not forget that while Mother's Day is on May 11 in the US, many other countries celebrate the holiday on the last Sunday of May.
